[And true to her word, it doesn't take long for her to reach Edgeworth's place, knocking on his door and even trying to hammer out some sort of rhythm while knocking.]

( It's the final day of the Cordis moon, and thus, Edgeworth's feline features are still in full swing. Perhaps he ought to have delayed this meeting until a more suitable time, but he can wait no longer. At least he's not going out into public. He's wearing his comfortable clothes, sweatpants and a hoodie, although his extra pair of ears and whiskers are clearly visible. A faint trace of a smile is visible on his face when he opens the door, remarking: )

I didn't know we'd discussed a secret knock.

( The smile soon fades though, and Edgeworth's trademark seriousness soon settles in its place.

In fact, he may look even more stern and foreboding than usual.

Is such a thing possible? )

[Kay had been about to give him an answer about possibly making a secret knock, only to bite back the remark upon seeing him look even more serious than usual.

She walks inside slowly, no doubt also shelving any comments on Edgeworth dressing down, or his ears and whiskers. Normally she would have difficulty trying to keep a straight face, but the aura from Edgeworth is simply intense and stern enough that she knows he means business. Nevertheless, some things never change and she can't help but look around.]

...So, what did you want to speak to me about?

( Edgeworth swallows down his natural impulse to get straight down to business, instead remembering his manners. )

I fear this might be a long conversation. Would you like a cup of tea?

( He turns towards a small table, where Kay can sit, if she'd like. )

Ooh, sure. [She nods, her usual cheerfulness returning slowly as she sits at that table. In the back of her mind, she wonders what he wanted to talk about that would be taking a lot of her time.] Is there any sugar?

( He nods automatically, busying himself at the nearby counter, where he keeps his supplies. He brings down a box of earl grey, as well as a bowl of sugar. He gestures with the box. )

[Kay grins and gives him two thumbs up.]

I'd say that's o-Kay, Mr. Edgeworth!

[Look, regardless of the gravity of their impending conversation, she just had to make that pun.]

( He busies himself with preparing their tea, putting the kettle on and setting up two cups. At Kay's pun, he turns his head and offers her a small, tight smile. While this might be a serious situation, Edgeworth nonetheless appreciates what the girl is trying to do. )

What I want to talk about with you today is an event that occurred back on our own world.

( A pause, and he swallows thickly. )

I refer to the death of my father.

( He knows that Kay is from his future, whatever that implies, and that she might know more about him than he knows about himself. Asking her (and Gumshoe) for more information is the closest he'll ever get to uncovering the truth in this place, with the resources he has, and doesn't he owe it to his father to follow those leads? )

[Oh. Her smile and any semblance of cheer on her face instantly vanish. Occasionally it occurred to her that Edgeworth might want to know about his future considering that both she and Gumshoe were from it, but as time passed in this world, she no longer contemplated it as other things took over - becoming the Master of a powerful being from legend, joining the Moon Knights, the truth about this place, staying alive...

But now, Kay tenses. She remembers how Ray Shields acted when he first saw Edgeworth again, how he had accused Edgeworth of being a traitor. Today, she's facing an Edgeworth who was still following von Karma.

It would be best to be careful with what she said. She lowers her hands and places them on her lap.]

...What about it? [Her brow furrows in sympathy, and her voice shrinks from its usual, taking on an almost somber quality. After all, she could relate all too well to Edgeworth losing his father.] That's the DL-6 Incident, right?
